- Your daughter will learn what love looks like from you. If you treat her kindly, she will know that love is kind. If you are gentle with her mother, she will know that love is gentle. If you are angry when she fails, she will learn that love is conditional and that she must be perfect to earn it.
- You have the ability to shape the way your daughter views her body. She won’t think she is beautiful unless you tell her that she is. And if you don’t tell her, she will find a boy who will.
- Tenderness is not weakness. Your little girl needs you to demonstrate tenderness so that she can learn to embrace her own vulnerability. She also needs you to protect her in her vulnerability so that she knows what it feels like to be safe.
- Physical touch is important. Hug her and kiss her frequently. She needs to experience nurturing physical strength from you so that she is able to trust the physical touch of her future husband.
- Your little girl won’t always be little, but she will always be yours. If she starts to wander, make sure she knows she has never gone too far to come back. If you instill that in her when she is young, she won’t forget it when she grows up.
Little girls love their daddies. Little girls need their daddies. Take every opportunity that you have to let your little girl know how special and loved she is. Don’t underestimate your ability to influence your daughter’s life in ways that will shape her forever.
